IPhone App for Golf GPS- GolfLogix Has It

Author: admin  //  Category: iphone applications

Thanks to World Golf for this story on Golf Logix’s iPhone Golf GPS app-

GolfLogix new iPhone Golf GPS application makes top ten list

World Golf.com Aug 7, 2009

GolfLogix’s advanced golf GPS application is now available for Apple’s iPhone 3G and 3GS Smartphones and is already listed in the top 10 most requested sports applications in the iTunes Store.

Golfers can download a free trial from iTunes or by clicking on the iPhone download link at www.golfgps.com. With the GolfLogix iPhone golf GPS application golfers get convenient distances to the front, center and back of the greens as well as layups and major hazards on more than 24,000 golf courses worldwide. Plus they have access to GolfLogix patented scoring and round tracking technology. This allows golfers to analyze and compare round data such as fairways hit, greens in regulation, distances of each club and more right on their iPhones or on a personalized website hosted by GolfLogix.

GolfLogix is the first major player in the golf GPS handheld market to offer its application to GPS-enabled cellphones such as the BlackBerry and iPhone Smartphones. In less than a week, the GolfLogix application has climbed up the top 10 most requested sports applications in iTunes. “Our application gives golfers more than a digital scorecard. They get a real picture of their game. It’s like having a personal caddie with you for every round,” states Scott Lambrecht, CEO of GolfLogix, Inc. “Our professionally mapped database of more than 24,000 golf courses that has been customer validated since 1999 is also what sets us apart from the other iPhone golf applications.” The Company brings more than 10 years of golf GPS experience as well as its extensive golf course database to the entire Smartphone community.

GolfLogix is offering a 24-hour free trial that starts when a golfer tees off. Following the free trial, golfers are invited to become a GolfLogix community member for $39.95 per year.

Golf Logix’s Membership includes unlimited access to see distances on more than 24,000 golf courses worldwide, scoring and stat tracking both on a Smartphone and on a personalized statistical website at GolfLogix.com, plus valuable discounts on must-have Smartphone accessories. Members will receive ongoing updates and software feature enhancements. The GolfLogix application is currently available on the iPhone 3G and 3GS as well as the BlackBerry Curve, Bold, Tour and Storm. “We want to give all golfers the ability to turn their GPS-enabled Smartphones into the ultimate GPS rangefinder,” adds Lambrecht.

Below is a You Tube video showing how the app works- very cool. Also note: if you like the idea of a stand alone Golf GPS, GolfLogix and other manufacturers will continue to offer them as well. I am a golfer and my favorite place to purchase them is on Amazon.com. Amazon’s Golf GPS Page

They discount them for the most part (except for the absolute newest ones) and their customer service is great.

Google Earth Now Available for Your iPhone

Author: admin  //  Category: iphone applications

Thanks to Robert Hansen writing for iPhone Freak on 10/28/08 for the following review of Google Earth for the iPhone: (but first check out the You Tube Video from Google about how to download and use the app)

Google has recently released an iPhone and iPod touch version of GOOGLE EARTH. The newly released app is available for free and offers functionality similar to the desktop version. Initially I was a little skeptical on just how well this would perform on the iPhone, but after playing for a little while I can say that it not only performs well, but was also fun to use.

Google Earth for the iPhone allows users to browse the globe with your fingertips. It even has links to Wikipedia articles for select locations as well as over 8 million Panoramio photos. Using Google Earth is simple thanks to the touchscreen capability, users can move around by swiping your finger, then once you locate that spot you want to check out, you can then pinch to zoom in or zoom out. The app also takes advantage of the built-in accelerometer and allows you to tilt the screen and get a different view.

Additionally you can use the search field to narrow into a particular location, and even use the built-in Location Services of the iPhone to quickly zoom in on your current location.

Overall, I am not sure just how often I would use Google Earth, its fun to play with, but one thing it seems to be missing are the street names, which you would commonly find in Google Maps.
